Service Description
upc.dev provides product intelligence data aggregated from public sources. The service includes a web interface for product lookup and an API for programmatic access.
API Usage
- API access requires registration and an API key
- Free tier: limited requests per day as specified on registration
- Rate limits are enforced per API key. Exceeding limits returns HTTP 429
- API keys are personal and non-transferable
- Automated scraping of the web interface (as opposed to using the API) is prohibited
Data Accuracy
Product data is aggregated from third-party sources and provided "as is." While we cross-reference multiple authoritative sources to maximize accuracy, we cannot guarantee that all data is current or error-free.
- Risk scores are algorithmic assessments, not safety certifications
- Pricing data may not reflect current retail prices
- Safety and recall data should be verified with official government sources (FDA, CPSC) for critical decisions
Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract our proprietary algorithms
- Resell raw API data without adding substantial value
- Exceed rate limits or circumvent access controls
- Misrepresent data from upc.dev as your own original research
Intellectual Property
The upc.dev platform, risk scoring algorithms, signal intelligence pipeline, and multi-source aggregation methodology are proprietary. Product data sourced from open/public databases retains its original license (typically Open Database License for Open Food Facts data).
Limitation of Liability
upc.dev is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for decisions made based on data provided through this service. Maximum liability is limited to fees paid in the 12 months preceding any claim.
Changes
We may update these terms at any time. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
